Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs and Department of Employment and Labour of South Africa renew their Joint Declaration of Intent

BMAS

Parliamentary State Secretary Anette Kramme and her South African counterpart Boitumelo Moloi.

Parliamentary State Secretary Anette Kramme and her South African counterpart Boitumelo Moloi signed a Joint Declaration of Intent between their two ministries in Johannesburg on 28 February.

I am delighted that we were able to sign our agreement today. Now it is important that we translate it into practice and that both countries benefit from our cooperation.

In the agreement, both sides declare their intention of intensifying their cooperation in the coming years. This is especially important to the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs and the German Government with a view to South Africa‘s upcoming G20 Presidency. The focus will be on securing a sufficient supply of (skilled) workers in both countries, inclusive labour markets, social protection and the future of work against the backdrop of the green and digital transition.

Parliamentary State Secretary Kramme and Deputy Labour Minister Boitumelo Moloi discussed possible fields of cooperation for their ministries.

South Africa is an important partner for Germany and our countries are cooperating closely in spirit of trust bilaterally and multilaterally as part of the G20 and the International Labour Organization.

During her stay in South Africa, Anette Kramme will visit a labour center in Pretoria, and she will meet with representatives of Siemens, the German Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Goethe Institute, the Friedrich-Ebert Foundation and South African trade unions. Moreover, Anette Kramme will get a first-hand impression of a sheltered employment enterprise for persons with disabilities and a social project for disadvantaged young people in the township of Soweto in Johannesburg.
