Putting new ideas for fair free movement of workers into practice together

Official start of the continuation of the German-Romanian work programme

State Secretary Dr. Rolf Schmachtenberg and Romania’s Labour Minister Marius-Constantin Budai signed a German-Romanian work programme for 2023-2024.

Since 2020, the Romanian Ministry of Labour and Social Solidarity and the German Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs have been cooperating intensively on the basis of a joint work programme. Together they have worked towards better working conditions for mobile workers. Now, they want to add new topics to their successful cooperation. For this reason, State Secretary Dr. Rolf Schmachtenberg and Romania’s Labour Minister Marius-Constantin Budai signed a German-Romanian work programme for 2023-2024 on 13 March.

State Secretary Schmachtenberg stressed: Our cooperation will focus on the important topic of social protection for mobile workers in the transport and logistics sector, 24-hour-care in private households and in the construction sector. Another topic is better access to information for foreign workers.

This is a task for a whole range of different people. It is important to discuss, try out and learn from new ideas continuously. The ministries are working together closely with the social partners and other institutions whose expertise is very helpful in this regard. A concrete next step will be an event on minimum wages and other important labour and social protection rules for seasonal workers.
