Cooperation with the Philippines: A Success Story

On 22 March, State Secretary Thorben Albrecht welcomed Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz, the Filipino Secretary of Labor and Employment, at the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs. Their talks focused on sending Filipino health care professionals to Germany. State Secretary Albrecht stressed how important the exchange with the Philippines on this issue was.

Due to the shortage of caregivers, health care professionals from third countries are given the opportunity to work in this field in Germany. As youth unemployment is high in the Philippines, the country is very interested in sending health care professionals to Germany. During their talks, State Secretary Albrecht and Secretary Dimapilis-Baldoz agreed that the cooperation of the public employment services in this field had been positive so far, and that the two countries wanted to continue working together closely on health care professionals.

Secretary Dimapilis-Baldoz visited not just the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs but a number of other institutions to get a comprehensive picture of the labour market situation of Filipinos in Germany.
