The issue of migration: sharing experiences with Members of Parliament from Greece and Cyprus

Within the framework of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung’s dialogue programme, a group of Members of Parliament from Greece and Cyprus visited the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs on 11 March 2020. The guests were welcomed by State Secretary Dr. Rolf Schmachtenberg.

The Members of Parliament wanted to learn about Germany’s experience with the integration of refugees and migrants. State Secretary Schmachtenberg explained both the legal framework and the institutional and financial conditions that have been established in Germany for the integration of these groups into society and the labour market. The Members of Parliament were very interested in the integration and language courses and the many other ways of integrating refugees and migrants into Germany’s labour market. Both sides agreed that the integration of migrants is a major challenge not only for their societies and their own countries but also for Europe as a whole. State Secretary Schmachtenberg offered to intensify the exchange of experiences with this issue.
