State Secretary Asmussen receives Indonesian delegation

Exchange of views on social security

State Secretary Jörg Asmussen met with a delegation from Indonesia led by Deputy Minister Chazali Situmorang of the Coordinating Ministry for People's Welfare at the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs on 10 June 2015. Against the backdrop of current reforms in Indonesia, the discussion focused on issues concerning the structure and financing of social security systems, particularly the pension system.

Secretary Asmussen:

The mix of statutory, occupational and private capital-based pension schemes is the most secure system of providing for old age that can be generated. This is the model we use in practice in Germany.

The discussion also addressed the topics of social security agreements, taking into account the situation of women in social security and current projects in the field of disability policy.

Indonesia has about 250 million inhabitants, making it the fourth largest country in the world. It is planning to develop and expand its social security system. Apart from the exchange of ideas at the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, the delegation is meeting with representatives from the German Bundestag, social partners and other social policy actors during its visit.
