27 EU countries – one video conference

The start of Germany's Presidency of the Council of the European Union (EU) for the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs: On 17 July 2020, Federal Labour Minister Hubertus Heil will host a video conference to discuss the recovery from the consequences of the corona pandemic.

17 July 2020 will go down in the history of the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs – from a digital point of view. It will be the first time that Hubertus Heil, Germany’s Minister of Labour and Social Affairs, will host a video conference for 26 European employment and social policy ministers, Nicolas Schmit, the EU Commissioner for Jobs and Social Rights, as well as for high-ranking representatives of Europe’s social partners.

Joint fight against the consequences of the corona pandemic in Europe

For the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, the video conference will mark the be-ginning of Germany's Presidency of the Council of the European Union (EU). Under the heading “The Social Dimension of Europe’s recovery”, participants will discuss the contribution of labour-market and social policies to a recovery from the consequences of the corona pandemic for societies, social welfare and economies.

Federal Labour Minister Hubertus Heil stated:

Because of the corona pandemic everything is different this year, but I am still looking forward to our joint video conference. It is clear: We need a European solution to a crisis that is as sweeping as the corona pandemic. We are all in the same boat.

The video conference will be followed by a press conference with a livestream which you will be able to watch on this website.
