Continuing education, digital transformation and the corona crisis: European opportunities for the work of tomorrow

On 20 October 2020, the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs hosted an interactive online panel to discuss the situation of future-oriented continuing education in times of structural change and the corona crisis with high-ranking guests. The event was held within the framework of Germany’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

The COVID-19 pandemic and the digital and ecological transformations will accelerate structural change. Continuing education is a central response to this transformation and the structural effects of the COVID-19 crisis on the labour market. At the same time, many EU member states are facing similar challenges. There are issues that need to be discussed given the lack of both continuing education activity in institutions that have been closed down due to corona and of digital alternatives and also because it is increasingly difficult  for already disadvantaged groups of people to gain access to continuing education.

What opportunities are there in the EU and the EU member states for the work of tomorrow? What is needed for people to have successful working lives in times of transformation?

We have discussed these and many other questions with you. A total of around 300 viewers followed the online panel. A report as well as the livestream recording will be made available shortly.
