State Secretary Thorben Albrecht met with Bulgarian Deputy Minister of Labour and Social Policy Zornitsa Roussinova for talks at the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs on 30 January 2018. The discussion focussed on the revision of the Posting of Workers Directive that aims at improving the working conditions of workers posted to other EU countries. One element of the revision is that in future, the principle of "the same pay for the same work in the same place" should apply.
The European Commission submitted a proposal to amend the Posting of Workers Directive on 8 March 2016. On 23 October 2017, the Employment and Social Policy Council Meeting reached an agreement on its position in a general approach. Bulgaria holds the Council Presidency in the first six months of 2018. In this function, it is striving for a speedy conclusion of the ongoing trilogue negotiations between the Commission, the Council and the European Parliament. Once they are concluded, the directive can enter into force.
