Occupational safety and health

Effective occupational safety and health measures and accident prevention are absolutely essential in today's increasingly fast-paced and demanding working world.

Effective occupational safety and health measures and accident prevention are absolutely essential in today's increasingly fast-paced and demanding working world. For this reason, they are an important focus of the work pursued by the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs (BMAS). The aim of these activities is to protect employees against hazards and damage to their health. Sound legislation and regulations that apply to all enterprises are indispensable to this.

This pertains not only to internal measures that are taken by the individual company but also to external measures, such as measures to ensure safe workplaces and workplace design, noise protection measures, measures to promote health in the workplace, for assuring the safety of equipment and products and for handling hazardous substances.

Germany's Occupational Safety Law allows enterprises some latitude in their implementation of these measures so that they can tailor them to their particular requirements. Risk assessments issued by occupational safety and health systems at the workplace play a key role in this connection.

For innovative companies, jobs that are not only safe and healthy but competitive as well are a deciding factor in how successful they are in today's globalised economy. This is the starting point for the New Quality of Work (INQA) initiative.
